Los Angeles Rams Matthew Stafford #9 at SoFi Stadium^ Dec. 28^ 2024^ in Inglewood^ Calif.

According to multiple sources, Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford has not been able to practice at training camp due to a back injury.

News on Wednesday shed light on the nature of Stafford’s injury, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reporting that an aggravated disc is the cause, with Stafford, 37, receiving treatment for the issue that has reportedly included an epidural injection. Rapoport added that the Rams still plan for their quarterback to be ready for Week 1.

Rams head coach Sean McVay said earlier this week that Stafford is “progressing well,” but wasn’t yet ready to join the team for practice. The team has listed Stafford as ‘week-to-week’ since the start of camp and the goal remains to have him progress to the point that he’s able to play in Week 1.

With Stafford out of action, Jimmy Garoppolo has been handling the first-team quarterback work and will get the start if Stafford isn’t ready by the season opener against the Texans on September 7.
